a few years ago i took a journey to europe searching for a new sound. people along the journey had been telling me about this guy from tropea, italy called dj steve (named after his favorite musician, stevie wonder).
he is a butcher there by day, but at night he is the dj at a club called casablanca. i made my way to this tiny town in the south of italy and found dj steve. his 12 hour dj sets opened my eyes. this guy was the real deal. he was playing dubplates, vinyl, cassettes, and reel-to-reels. all special edits he had done over the years. i couldnt believe what i was hearing.

after john coltrane and cannonball adderly left the quintet, miles davis was forced to search for new qualified musicians. he found them in hank mobley, wynton kelly, jimmy cobb and paul chambers. in 1961, just two years after recording kind of blue, miles and his new line up started recording energetically and finished someday my prince will come after only three days.
this album is a cross-over from kind of blue (movlp019), which is known for the typical miles davis-tunes, to traditional pop-standards such as the eponymous title track from >snow white and the seven dwarfs<.
music on vinyl turned this classic album, including glaring solos from john coltrane (joining miles on two tracks on this album) and hank mobley, into a true gem! this record is re-mastered on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.

ancient future is the second collaboration between visionary pianist ryuichi sakamoto and electronic pioneer christopher willits. built around a series of piano pieces that sakamoto sent to willits after the release of the duos first record together, 2008s ocean fire, the six tracks that make up ancient future are entirely instrumental—and yet, they speak about the very essence of what it means to be human. as a whole, ancient future functions as a piece about the creation, acceptance and completion of ones fate and all of lifes experiences, following a trajectory through inner conflict, resolution and, ultimately, acceptance.

in june 2011 subtext recordings was restarted after a six year hiatus for the release of the second lp from emptyset, titled >demiurge<. this album represented a transition from the first two subtext releases, a pair of seminal experimental recordings from the groundbreaking duo vexd, switching path into a new terrain that allowed for the distortion and dissolution of the sequencer grid and shifted the focus of the label from the programmed to the composed.
through this development subtext recordings has evolved into a conversation between emptyset, the ex-vexd artist roly porter, and composer paul jebanasam, who has spearheaded the revival of the label. this new release continues this dialogue by commissioning both porter and jebanasam to respond to the material contained within >demiurge< and develop their own interpretations of the original album.
